NEW TECTONICS FOR NEW MANUFACTURING PARADIGMS
RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE | Fall 2014
STUDIO INSTRUCTORS: Francis Bitonti & Xuedi Chen
This studio examines the evolving industrial manufacturing paradigms. Looking at 3D printing as a catalyst for a new kind of industrialization that alters both the formal aspects of our built environment as well as economic and social factors. Students began their research by looking at manufactured homes and automobiles, examining both the construction as well as business and development models. This knowledge is applied when they design and build their own 3D printers as we imagine a probable future fueled by this technology.
